Emma Jane Johns
Position
Director, Solicitor and Head of our Wills, Probate and Estates department
Profile
After Winterton Comprehensive School and John Leggott Sixth Form College, I studied Law with French at Leicester University. My year studying French law, in French and alongside French students has left me with a sound knowledge of the French language and a taste for wine from the Alsace region! After university, I attended Chester College of Law where I passed my Law Society Finals with honours. I did my training with Masons (now Pinsent Masons) in London from 1990-1992. After qualifying in 1992, I completed three years with Masons, in the fields of public procurement and negotiating and drafting construction contracts for the power industry in the far east. In 1995, I left the bright lights of the City and headed home to North Lincolnshire where I worked at our Brigg office doing Residential Conveyancing. In 2001, I was made a Partner in the firm and moved to the Scunthorpe office in 2003 to develop our Wills, Probate and Estates department.
Specialism
I have specialised in our Wills, Probate and Estates department since 2003. Over the years, I have drafted hundreds of Wills and Powers of Attorney, as well as administering countless estates – those where there is a Will and intestacies, where there isn’t. I particularly enjoy meeting clients and taking time to get to know them, their circumstances and needs. Doing so has made me realise that there is rarely a “standard” case – people’s lives are often comprised of many complex threads.
Hobbies
I enjoy singing with Scunthorpe and District Choral Society, walking and doing Tai Chi, ballet and tap dancing. I recently completed the Yorkshire Wolds Way which was wonderful for its variety of landscape and tranquillity. I have been a Governor at a local Junior School since 2004 and more recently also became a Governor at a local Infants School.
