To make our work sound important, we lawyers use complicated names for lots of perfectly simple
things. "C
onveyancing" for instance just means "Selling A House".

Here at LawLincs we've compiled a special Dullary to explain all the technical nonsense in real
words. It's a kind of Glossary - but duller. You can click on every technical word on these pages to
open a new Dullary window showing a commonsense translation.

Actually, if you're really interested in conveyancing you can buy a self-help book and do the job
yourself. We even recommend a couple on our further reading page.

Buying or selling a house can be one of the biggest steps you take in your life, and we believe it's
your right to know exactly what's happening.

However in practice most people find it simpler - and safer - to use a solicitor. They want a solicitor
who can explain and take care of everything from start to finish, who they can telephone and
speak to. Most of all, they want a solicitor they can trust to get the job done with minimum hassle.

It's said that moving house ranks up there alongside Death and Divorce as the Three Most
Stressful Experiences in modern life. That's worse than losing your job, your hair or anything
else you can think of. The biggest source of that stress is the dreaded "chain" - a whole line
of people itching to move at different times in different directions.

When moving house we need openness: we need to know what's happening, why it's
happening and when. We need to know what to do and when to do it. Instead - all too often -
we get left in the dark. What happens is:

The seller is concerned about the delay. The seller blames the buyer and the buyer blames the
buyer's buyer. The buyer's buyer blames the buyer's buyer's seller. The buyer's buyer's seller
blames the buyer's buyer's seller's estate agent / financial adviser / surveyor / solicitor.
The buyer's buyer's seller's seller's solicitor blames the buyer's buyer's seller's seller's
surveyor / financial adviser / estate agent / seller... oh, you get the picture.

But it doesn't have to be that way - just follow our painless patent LawLincs EeziRead Guide to
